Recognizing the Big Causes of Diabetes

By Manueel Jacky

The medical profession is learning more about diabetes every day. The causes of this disease have been unknown to us until recently. We know now that in addition to genetic and non controllable situations that enviromental factors also contribute to this disease. What can you do about some of the major causes of diabetes? Can anything be done? In this article we talk about some of the causes of diabetes that may or may not be within your control.

We will also tell you what you can do about them.

Your ethnicity also plays a role in your likelihood of developing Type 1 diabetes. This disease is a lot more common in people of Northern European descent. It is particularly prevalent in people of Finnish or Sardinian descent. African Americans and Hispanic Americans are the next on the target list. Asian descendants are the lowest on the risk list. Sadly, this is one thing you cannot fight against. This is not something you can change to avoid Type 1 diabetes, unlike other factors.

This is a condition that won't last long and can be taken charge of through a proper diet. Women who have babies weighing above nine pounds are also more likely to end up with diabetes than those who have babies weighing below nine pounds. Sadly, there is little that can be done to limit the weight of your baby (and babies are now usually being born heavier and heavier every day). All pregnant women get tested for gestational diabetes, so they don't have to stress about being afflicted with the condition and being unaware of it. Your doctor will help you figure out how to control the disease if it takes hold while you are pregnant.
