Chelation Therapy Can Improve Health

By Arthur Williamson

A patient who had been having a terrible time with memory walked into Angel Longevity Medical Center in Los Angeles. The diagnosis for the memory loss and other ailments was heavy metals and toxins accumulated in the body. The treatment was chelation.

After the treatment, the patient said that he had been unable to remember his Yahoo password for months. But after receiving his chelation treatment and went home, he sat down in front of the computer. Without any difficulty at all, he was able to type in his password without needing to look it up first.

Chelation Explained

Chelation (pronounced key-LAY-shun) is a way to remove heavy metals and toxins from the body. It comes from the Greek word "chele" which means "claw." The process uses chemical bonding agents which use their "claws" to attach to toxins and metals. During World War II researchers discovered they could create a ring of molecules that would attach to heavy metals in the body. They called these chelation agents. There are bodily processes that use chelation, too, such as hemoglobin attaching to iron and delivering oxygen to cells. But in WW II these agents were used to remove lead poisoning from the body. Once the chelating agent is attached to the metal, both are eliminated from the body.

The toxin or metal is not neutralized when the chelating agent pulls it off the cell - it does have to be eliminated from the body. So there is a chance that the unwanted particle could attach to another cell. For that reason, chelation is repeated a few times. The chelating agents used can be several - dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), dimercaptopropane sulfonate (DMPS), or ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). They are introduced to the bloodstream intravenously. Chelation is a widely known method of removing heavy metals - and is used in mainstream medicine for lead poisoning.

Chelation is the treatment used today for lead poisoning. But since the process removes other metals, too, in addition to mineral deposits, calcium-based plaques and other poisons, it benefits other medical conditions. Atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries by plaque deposits) and arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and diabetes can be treated with chelation, as it has a very positive effect on the blood flow.

Chelation treatment is done in the doctor's office. Often the physicians are alternative medicine practitioners seeking treatments that get results without causing harm to the patient.

Heavy metals build up in the body over a lifetime, causing illness and aging. They increase free radical production. When the metals are removed, free radicals also disappear by a tremendous amount. So the patient begins to feel younger, and healthier and chelation decreases the risk for other diseases such as cancer and heart attack. Doctors do not let it generally be known, but chelation may be able to increase life expectancy.

Removal of toxins from the body by chelation stops toxins being produced in the body. Metals produce a huge amount of free radicals. With the metals gone, untold amounts of free radicals are no longer being created. No wonder memory improved for the patient!
